In just a few short months, Willie Mays turns 89. It’s a reminder that time marches on for all of us.

There is a whole generation of players who are from Mays’ era that are, fortunately, still available to us to marvel and learn from: Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax and Johnny Bench to name just a few.

Mays has sometimes been referred to as the Greatest Living Ballplayer, an unofficial title that has been heaped upon others in the past, including Joe DiMaggio.
