ALL Mama’s CHILDREN
Paul was named after Paul Robeson, the black singer, actor and activist
Growing up in Penarth in the mid-1950s, Paul Barrett was turned on to the music by the great Bill Haley.“I’ve always been a huge fan,” he recalled in 2016. “I saw Rock Around the Clockwhen it came out in the Windsor Kinema in Penarth in 1956, when it was obvious that all the adults in the auditorium had come to see what the kids were going to do because of all the hoo-ha in the press. I was in the cheap seats. I didn’t rip any of them up, but I remember dancing in the aisles. Bill Haley got me into music and rock’n’roll.”
