It was December 9 when Vroom first announced that Felipe Massa would replace Sheikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa as CIK President. The news soon made its way around the fourwheel world, immediately provoking mixed feelings among teams, drivers, constructors, insiders. Why exactly Felipe Massa? Or rather, why, in a period of crisis like the current one that karting is experiencing, wasn’t a less charismatic but more “concrete” figure chosen? Moreover, Massa has never had experience in European kart; he is not one of those superheroes flying the cape of Tony Kart, CRG, or Birel. Questions and doubts concerning his presidency may, therefore, be legitimate but, as always, there is always another side to the story, and Massa may turn out to be a revelation.
