David Coulthard, the former Formula One driver, after trying a Superkart said, “One of the scariest things I’ve ever had to deal with.” Not that the Scottish driver has ever lacked for anything in his racing life: from accidents on the track to a plane crash from which he miraculously emerged alive. Yet, the experience on board these small cars capable of reaching speeds well above 200 km / h has truly remained impressed upon him.

Doing a little math is easy: if you think that the vehicle weighs 218 kilograms and has 100 HP, you understand why a Superkart does 0-100 km 7 h in less than 3 seconds – in comparison, today’s Formula One do 0-100 in 1.7. The distinction regarding the two data is, today more than ever, the large amount of electronics that characterizes the maximum formula, compared to Superkart where there are no electronic components intervening on the starting procedures. A few numbers explain and describe a category that is among the most impressive in the world of karting, one which has just seen the end of its 2018 European Championship, and why - on these pages – we’d like to report and learn a little more.
