Pain in the bum? There are a number of glute problems that can stop you in your tracks: knowledge is power, so gen up on the more common injuries

GLUTE INJURIES

► Gluteal strain

An over-stretch or tear of the muscle which causes pain in your buttocks when moving your leg backwards, for instance, pushing off into a running stride.

► Gluteal tendinopathy

A result of many tiny tears to the tendons that happen over time due to poor hip and gluteal muscle control, causing pain and hip-pelvis instability. If recognised early and the running programme (intensity and frequency) is reduced, this can heal quickly. However, if you continue to run at the same pace and frequency the damage will progressively become worse, causing pain and dysfunction.
