To have a conversation you need to run at the speed of chat. Put aside speed intervals and hills for one run and invite friends, family and colleagues for a ‘chatty run’. This makes the agenda clear: everyone understands this run isn’t about speed. If people don’t know each other then you could give them a fact to find out about a fellow runner to break the ice. Conversation will then follow more freely: there’s something about running side by side with someone that makes talking easier than face to face situations
