This iconic racecourse is home of the prestigious horse race – the Investec Derby
Epsom Downs Racecourse, 20 August, and I was hot to trot, or so I thought. Having run a lot less than usual lately due to a never-gonna-let-you-go chest infection and crazy work commitments I was eager to get out into the open air and have a canter around this iconic venue where, in 1913, the suffragette Emily Davison was fatally injured by King George V’s horse, Anmer. Of course, in such illustrious surroundings, it’s important to consider carefully what hat to wear: this racecourse is, after all, the home of the legendary Derby, one the UK’s most prestigious horse races. After rummaging through my costume box, I found, to my shame, that I didn’t have any horsey headgear, so I settled for my trusty flappable flamingo cap.
