The long running fantasy anthology series, Sword & Scorceress, will be open to submissions for volume 31 between 16 April and 13 May. Submissions must feature a strong female protagonist and fall within the sword and sorcery sub-genre of fantasy. Editor Elizabeth Waters will consider one or two contemporary-set tales, and requires one short, funny story with which to close the volume. It is recommended to read past volumes in the series to get an idea of the sort of material which is suitable. The volume will be published by the Marion Zimmer Bradley Literary Works Trust.
No explicit sex, gratuitous violence, or profanity. No poetry, reprints, multiple or simultaneous submissions. Word count is up to 9,000 words, though the longer the story, the better it will have to be. Include full contact details in the upper left corner of every page. Payment is 6¢ per word as an advance against a pro rata share of royalties, foreign and other sales.
