US retail giant Walmart is to sell e-readers, ebooks, and audiobooks, Business Insider reports. The e-readers will be made by Japanese e-retailer Rakuten Koko and sold under the Aura brand. The move will see Walmart directly challenging Amazon’s market dominance, which currently has 83% of the US ebook market.
Kobo has an ebook store with access to over 6 million titles from over 30,000 publishers, but currently has just 0.3% of the US market in sales terms. Given that Walmart own Asda, expect similar developments in the UK.
