The £30,000 International Dylan Thomas Prize, given for the best work by an author of 39 or under, was won by Max Porter for his debut, a hybrid novella/poem/essay/playscript, Grief Is the Thing With Feathers.
The regional winners of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize are: Pacific: Black Milk, Tina Makereti (New Zealand); Asia: Cow and Company, Parashar Kulkarni (India); Africa: The Pigeon, Faraaz Mahomed (South Africa); Canada and Europe: Eel, Stefanie Seddon (UK); Caribbean: Ethelbert and the Free Cheese, Lance Dowrich (Trinidad and Tobago). The overall winner will be announced on 5 June at the Calabash International Literary Festival in Jamaica.
