Peter Breakspear, Weymouth, won our competition in association with Matador to have his novel published by the imprint. This is the first in a series of articles leading up to the book’s release by following it through the process of publication. Here we look at how the winner was chosen and the editing, cover design and early stage marketing that has been undertaken on the winning manuscript.
In October 2015, WritingMagazine launched a fiction writing competition where the first prize would be to be published, marketed and distributed by Matador. The competition closed on 31 December after receiving over 100 entries, ensuring that Writing Magazine editor Jonathan Telfer and Matador managing director Jeremy Thompson were kept very busy in the first few days of 2016 reading submissions.
