The Silence of the Girls, the new novel from Pat Barker, due to be published in the autumn next year, is described by the author as ‘a radical departure for me’. The book will be published by Hamish Hamilton/ Penguin and will reimagine the ancient Greek epic from the point of view of Queen Briseis in the weeks preceding the death of Achilles.
Uncommon Type: Some Stories is a new collection of short stories, each linked by the image of a typewriter. The author is one Tom Hanks, which might explain why, in a ‘rare literary experience,’ this debut collection by a previously unknown writer will be promoted in a special Penquin Live event at the Royal Festival Hall on 1 November.
