Calling all birdwatchers! The annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is back again and is now in its 38th year, with more than half a million people expected to get involved in the counting. Taking place 28th–30th January, the event provides highly valuable information about Britain’s bird population, and has seen both significant declines and increases in certain species since it began. As well as counting avian friends, participants can also note other creatures they come across, such as hedgehogs and moles. To take part, all you need to do is watch the birds that land in your garden or local park for one hour and note the highest number of species you see at any one time. Find out more at
