April brings a special 36 page issue of ARH featuring Part 1 of David Fletcher’s detailed history of ‘The Art and Architecture of early American locomotive imports to New South Wales’. It focuses on the design and liveries of these locomotives and features magnificent A3 size drawings of the two 4-4-0 U105 Class and the two versions of the J131 Class 2-8-0 locomotives imported between 1877 and 1879, which are presented as centre pages fold-outs.
The issue also features Mike Quirk’s detailed assessment of Queensland’s Camp Mountain disaster’ of 5 May 1947. With 16 deaths and another 38 passengers suffering injuries, it remains Queensland’s worst railway accident for loss of life. Mike give a detailed account of the Court of Inquiry.
