Australian Railway History  |  Aug-15
Part 1 of Ross Willson’s detailed account of the rationale for the fascinating steam tramway line from Arncliffe to Bexley and its operation leads the August issue of Australian Railway History. This is the last of Sydney’s steam tramway lines to be covered in ARH and its predecessors.
Our feature article is Chris Bangar’s account of the plight of such soldier settlers in north-eastern Victoria and the political agitation to construct the short branch line from Bowser to Peechelba East (opened in 1927) that provided the struggling farmers with improved market access for their produce. It is illustrated by an impressive range of fine photographs. The issue concludes with Michael Jennings’ boyhood memories of steam-hauled trains at various Central West towns in the early 1960s.
