This year the team and I have discussed numerous times how 1970 – 50 years ago – seemed to be a massive year of changes for railways all over Australia. So, when Frank Johnson surprised us with this month’s article, we naturally thought it suitable for the December edition to finish Volume 71 on a high. As you will read, a number of NSW train services were still worked by steam, but the end was in sight with new modern power taking over. All photos shown are in 1970 unless written.
