Australian Railway History  |  September 2015
The September ARH opens with Part 1 of the late David Behan’s detailed documentation of the remnants of colliery and industrial railway sidings in the Ipswich area as at the end of 1999; with updates to December 2014.
The D57 Class 4-8-2 locomotives of the NSW Railways bring nostalgia to many, so we have included an article prepared by the late Ken Groves prior to preparation of his book on these ‘Big Engines’, backed by some great images. Mike Quirk continues his accounts of Queensland railway accidents with the saga of the Blackbutt Range derailment of March 1930; and Peter Fisher rounds off the issue with an account of the conflict that emerged over a proposal for a rival tramway to the Melbourne & Hobson’s Bay Railway in the late 1850s.
