POLESTAR 2
Polestar’s exec switches to rear drive in a quest for more efficiency
TESTED 27.6.23, GLOUCESTERSHIRE ON SALE NOW
“We don’t really do facelifts,” Polestar told us at the launch of the not-facelifted Polestar 2. Instead, it makes subtle model-year changes and keeps its cars fresh with over-the-air updates.
It’s true that the visual changes for 2023 here are minor. The fake grille has been filled in and there are some smart new wheel designs. This is less a facelift, then, and more of a gastric sleeve, because the big changes are aimed at reducing the 2’s appetite for kilowatt-hours. Like the related Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge, the Polestar 2 gets a new, more efficient inverter and motor, now mounted at the rear, and with them comes a substantial bump in power and a rapid-charging speed.
