The proliferation of C-segment SUVs has hurt sales of estates, but there remains a strong case for such cars. That’s where the new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer comes in, taking the contemporary, sharp design of the hatchback and adding a lot more practicality.
The new estate brings with it a choice of powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid one, and simplified trim levels, although it’s perhaps not the bargain that the Astra used to be.
Up front, it’s the same as the hatch, with the Pure Panel digital dash, lots of storage and very comfortable seats.
