APOCALYPSE NOW
Apocalypse Manufacturing of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, builds the biggest, baddest Ram TRX 6x6 conversion yet. Michael Teo Van Runkle drives it
They say everything is bigger in Texas, but the aphorism apparently holds true in Florida, too. And yet, on the wide beachfront boulevards of Miami, driving a Juggernaut 6x6 from Apocalypse Manufacturing still draws doubletakes no matter the time of day.
Based on the Ram TRX, itself already the most outrageous truck available from an American car maker – and, therefore, the world – Apocalypse’s latest exercise in excess pairs an exterior easily mistaken for a spaceship or stealth bomber with a snarling supercharged Hellcat engine that barks and grumbles while spooling up to a raucous 850 horsepower.
Other quick stats that help the Juggernaut stand out from any crowd: full-time six-wheel drive with four locking differentials, a starting price of $300,000 (roughly £261,000) and fuel economy in the low single digits. Even in the country that invented a fad as absurd as rolling coal, the Juggernaut seems downright ludicrous. But Apocalypse’s customers don’t give a hoot about MPG, especially because burning dinosaur guts (only 4000 years old, of course) will only anger the other side more.
