Big Carp Magazine  |  Big Carp 205
A Month of Monsters
As the title suggests, we give you a month of huge captures across the UK. A record month in fact, since I started Big Carp almost 25 years ago. Our ‘Catch Report’ section and ‘Made in England’ feature have swelled to a massive 40 pages with dozens of 40lb plus and the odd 50lb plus carp! In fact, so many, that we’ve just had to carry a few over until next month.
So what have we got lined up for you this month? Well, it really is the cream of the ‘secret carpers’. Carp anglers who, until recently, have never divulged their precious catches, and I am proud to say it’s Big Carp of course, that they have chosen to reveal their secrets.
Firstly the black country’s finest Dave Mallin. Dave has only recently started carp fishing again after a little break and once again he’s at the cutting edge. Most of you will not have heard much of Dave’s catches, but Dave is among the best of the best. He had a string of monster carp over a ten-year period, unequalled in the carp-fishing world. He was the only angler to catch all of the elusive Mere residents, in fact he caught the Black Mirror twice! Not only that but his catches at Wraysbury and Yateley are still talked about as ‘unbelievable’. But there are a number of other catches too, almost all never before published. Join Dave this month as he tells the tale of the Mere’s massive linear, thought by many to be a myth, but landed only by Dave. It’s great news that Dave’s whole life history will also be part of our next book series ‘Big Carp Hunters’ and Dave will be joining me for the launch at the Carp Society Winter Show at Sandown Park.
