New homes, as well as those undergoing extensive renovation, will be required to have electric vehicle (EV) charge points installed from next year, under new legislation announced by the prime minister. The government estimates the legislation will mean up to 145,000 extra chargers will be installed in England each year in the run up to 2030 – when the sale of new petrol and diesel cars is set to end.
