It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t end this travel back with a journey forwards, and so we find ourselves asking the inevitable question: what’s next?
We invited Tran Ma to take a look at the near future. “Looking ahead, it’s clear game-engine tech and its processes will only continue to shape and redefine this industry in remarkable ways,” she says. “The pace of progress in this field is nothing short of mindblowing, and we are just scratching the surface of what is possible with these powerful tools. The impossible has become possible, and this will open up a whole new realm of creative possibilities for artists and filmmakers.

“On a commercial level, I believe we’ll see more and more companies shifting towards Unreal Engine. But perhaps even more exciting is the impact that game-engine technology will have on indie filmmakers and other creative individuals. With access to these powerful tools and processes, those with fewer resources and less funding will be able to tell their stories in ways that were previously impossible. This democratisation of visual effects and animation will not only lift previous limitations, but also empower the community to create and innovate in ways that were once unimaginable.”
