What can I say about Thanksgiving? It wasn’t an ideal holiday for me growing up. My parents divorced so my father and I would go to The Holiday Inn restaurant with a large dining room and have a big feast together. Years later I started cooking and my sister would join us with her family. But the wildest Thanksgiving memory I have was when my brother from Australia came to visit with his family and we had Thanksgiving at my mom’s. I was 22 and it was the first time I had ever met him!
We were thick as thieves, he was a redhead and a rebel just like me. We were both pool sharks and loved making giant snowmen and sledding at high speed while jumping off with epic wipe-outs. We drifted apart, but the memories are still very sweet.
With a broken family spread across the globe I learned quickly that family aren’t only blood relations. Family are those that stick with you through the good and the bad times. You laugh and cry with them. You have each other’s backs no matter what. If you are lucky, you even make miniatures with them!
Whoever you spend Thanksgiving with this year, I hope you have fun and remember to share how much you care for each other.
