When I mention “everyday carry,” some people are led to believe that I’m carrying the exact same things every day. I don’t know about you, but it’s not that way for me. The reason is that every day is not the same. And while I have no crystal ball to tell me what I’m going to face on any particular day, I can anticipate events to a certain extent. If I’m going hiking or hunting, the contents of my pockets might be a little different than if I’m going shopping or to the theater with my wife.
Of course, there are many things we can’t predict. Who would have thought at this time last year that key components of our EDC gear would be a surgical mask and a tube o f hand sanitizer? Where I live, you can’t get into any business establishment without a mask .
Sure, I always have a knife and a flashlight, but I don’t always carry the same knife or the same flashlight. Yes, I have some favorites, but those favorites might have been different last week and will probably be different next week. I’m always trying new things, looking for gear that’s just a little bit sharper, a little bit brighter and designed a little bit better-all within the confines of my affordability quotient. That’s calculated by my wife and only she knows the mathematical formula. I do have all-time favorites, but I’ll save that for an article in a future issue.
