HAMPSTEAD’S Catto Gallery includes this maquette of the Bomber Command Memorial (above) in its upcoming exhibition of works by sculptor Philip Jackson.
The sculpture, consisting of seven 9ft (2.74m) high figures, is a tribute to the 55,573 Bomber Command crew who died during the Second World War. It was unveiled in Green Park, London in June 2012.
Jackson said at the time: “I wanted to portray them as ‘quietly heroic’ because these men were flying six or seven missions knowing that few of them were coming back. They just kept going.”
