At the Ink Fair London on October 25-27, Susanne Sculz-Falster Rare Books offers this collection of 241 butterfly and moth prints housed in a 22-drawer collector’s cabinet, right, for £7500.
In the 19th century, many amateur entomologists used lepidochromy, a process in which in which the pigments from the wings of butterflies were transferred to paper with gum Arabic, and this collection was compiled between 1905-38. Though the prints are labelled and dated, nothing is known about the collection.
