David Armour died on November 10 at the age of 87. An art teacher by trade – at Edinburgh Art College he had met many great artists and painted a young aspiring actor called Sean Connery – it was on retirement that his passion for the antique world blossomed. With his wife Mabel he took tables at Edinburgh fairs, as well as down south at Newark etc.
He specialised in porcelain and silver. He was also an expert in many fields over his lifetime, such as bird fancying and judging, cycling, painting, shooting, hunting, archery and his greatest passion: fly-fishing. He was many times club champion of Linlithgow Angling Club and owned a collection of more than 100 fishing rods and almost as many reels. He was a lover of fine wine and, with Mabel (a French teacher), he visited France, bringing back his wee white van filled with cases of wine to be enjoyed (not collected). He was also a member of the Malt Whisky Society.
