A group of medals awarded to the Anglo-Jewish socialite Gladys, Lady Swaythling (1879-1965), for her philanthropic work will go under the hammer at Dreweatts on August 14 in Donnington Priory, Newbury.
Married to Lord Swaythling, a financier, political activist and prominent member of the British Jewish community, Lady Swaythling was known for her voluntary and philanthropic efforts. She worked with a variety of charities including the Red Cross and forged close links with the Japanese government from the First World War until the outbreak of the Second World War.
