UNITED Auctions had a catalogued entry of 370 cattle and 158 sheep at its annual May sale at Dalmally Auction Mart last Saturday.
The cattle entry was almost 100 head up on the corresponding sale last year. All classes sold to a packed ringside of buyers. Bullocks sold to average £802.27 per head or 250.93 pence per kilo (£861.96 or 265.78 pence per kilo last year).
Heifers sold to average £689.08 or 229.31 pence per kilo (£736.25 or 248.85 pence per kilo last year). The top priced bullock per head came from Messrs Christie, Auchlyne, for Charolais crosses, realising £1,040. The best price per kilo for a bullock was for Limousin crosses from Tiraghoil, Mull, at 297.80 pence.
Limousin heifers from Croftintygan sold to £990 per head, while Barnakill Farm, Cairnbaan led this section per kilo at 282.40 pence for Charolais crosses.
Texel cross hoggs from Tombuie led the sheep trade at £100 per head.
