Islay sale sees sheep and cattle prices up on year

UNITED Auctions held their annual sheep and cattle sale at Islay Auction Mart on Wednesday October 18. A total of 301 head of cattle and 1,593 lambs and sheep were sold.

Bullocks sold to average 237.6 pence per kilo or £742.12 (+ 15.2 p/k or £39.11 on the year). Heifers levelled out at 223.8 pence per kilo or £625.04 (+ 9.01 p/k or £38.91 on the year). A good ringside of buyers ensured all stock sold at very comparable levels to mainland markets.

A good show of quality sheep were on offer, again to a strong force of mainland buyers. Lambs sold to average £51.07 per head or 146.62 per kilo (+ £1.49 per head or +2.65 p/k on the year).
