A MAN who had a provisional licence and was only allowed to drive a works van on an Isle of Jura site, was fined £600 and given six points on his driving licence after he crashed it and the vehicle was destroyed by fire.
Klaidas Birbalas, 24, of 3 Dee Place, Aberdeen pleaded guilty to three charges, taking the van without the owner’s permission, leaving it burning and unattended and not having learner plates displayed.
On Thursday of last week, procurator fiscal Eoin McGinty told Campbeltown Sheriff court that Birbalas was employed by a scaffolding firm but only had permission to drive the van on site.
