CalMac charters freight ferry to ease Islay congestion

A FREIGHT ferry is being chartered by ferry operator CalMac to ease problems on its Islay service.

The MV Red Princess, a cargo ship, has been ferrying traffic from Kennacraig to Islay and back since last weekend to tackle congestion.

The island has been served by a single vessel, the MV Finlaggan, after the MV Hebridean Isles was taken off the route after what the company describes as ‘a contact’ with Kennacraig pier last week.
