Let customers buy Scottish, supermarkets urged

AS THE UK teeters on the brink of exiting the EU, Scotland’s farming union has called on supermarkets to better support Scottish producers.

NFU Scotland met representatives from Tesco, Morrisons, the Co-operative, Marks & Spencer and Aldi at the recent Royal Highland Show.

At these meetings, the NFUS detailed the impact that ongoing food price deflation is having at a farm level with low market returns in virtually every sector challenging profitability on many Scottish farms.
