Here at the Banner we don’t like to blow our own trumpet all the time, but it is always nice when others seem to appreciate what we do. So we are indebted to well-known Scottish journalist Kevin McKenna, whose latest diary piece on the GlasgowLive website of Daily Record and Sunday Mail publisher Media Scotland contained the following.
‘The Diary was sent on a nice journalistic assignment last week which took us to one of our favourite old childhood holiday destinations, the island of Arran. We were only there for a day but made a point of purchasing the local weekly newspaper, The Arran Banner, which has been serving the island for 42 years. At the supermarket checkout, as we made our purchase, we couldn’t help noticing that almost everyone in the shop had their own purchased copy.
‘The Arran Banner, you see, possesses one of the highest readerships by percentage in the UK and received the ultimate accolade from the Guinness Book of Records in acknowledgment.
