Appraisal of the facts


Much of the recent publicity has been concerned with the effects on Ardrossan if the Arran service was relocated to Troon, but it is worth keeping in mind that the issue of service unreliability is what affects the economy of the island (pop app. 5,000).

No-one is disputing the convenience of onward travel from Ardrossan, but it is of little advantage when the ferry cannot access the port. We are all familiar with the announcement ‘the ferry will depart for Ardrossan but berthing is not guaranteed and if unable to berth it will return to Brodick’.
