George Leslie Ltd, in partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), has been helping to bridge the gap for primary pupils who will shortly be advancing to high school, with a bridge-building workshop.
The fun, hands-on experience was aimed at introducing pupils to civil engineering, teamwork and good communication while also introducing them to more senior type activities and opportunities that are afforded to high school pupils.
Ross Ritchie and Alan Kirkwood, from George Leslie Ltd, who brought the large bridge components over, oversaw the teams building it, providing an interesting overview of loads, weights and suspension while also making comparisons with principals of engineering that are at work at the new ferry terminal in Brodick.
