Planning permission has been granted for an extension to Lamlash Cemetery along with the creation of associated footpaths, landscaping and perimeter fencing.
The application, previously submitted and withdrawn after receiving objections from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, was resubmitted and after satisfying all requirements will now go ahead. Permission has been granted with only one condition in recognition of the archaeological significance of the site as reported in The Banner last month.
The condition states that prior to any work taking place, a programme of archaeological works is submitted to North Ayrshire council and that during works the recording and recovering of the works undertaken are both done to the satisfaction of the council.
