The SNP government is to roll out new measures on June 1 designed to protect scallop stocks.
Changes will see the minimum landing size increase from 100mm to 105mm – a move ministers believe will help to protect the breeding stock and lead to an increase in yield and egg production.
Restrictions will also be placed on the number of dredges scallop vessels can tow in Scotland’s inshore waters, with vessels limited to eight dredges per side, or 10 if they install electronic monitoring onboard.
