EMILY WRIGHT
MOST young athletes would be overjoyed to finish fourth in the world in their event. However, for long jumper Emily Wright, last year’s World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia, was a bittersweet experience, as although delighted to finish as high up as she did globally, the ambitious 17-year-old was frustrated to be just one centimetre shy of claiming bronze.
Nonetheless, Emily’s 6.21m PB to finish fourth in Colombia showed that she has ability to rise to the big occasion and produce her best in the Championships, particularly as she had not had the perfect build-up.
