MONDAY evening in the Estádio Olímpico at Rio 2016 was hardly a classic session for the first three-quarters of the night. Rain interrupted play as the weather deteriorated from the bright, sunny conditions and temperatures of 30-plus degrees seen earlier in the day. The crowd was small and did not have much to cheer apart from hurdles heats as they waited for a suspended pole vault to re-start.
