WELL, WHO’D HAVE THOUGHT IT? The powers that be let little old me — a girl from the gutter, by all accounts — meet His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge. For a good cause, of course: to discuss homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic bullying. It is an important issue and he is an important figurehead. He also struck me as a good man who was willing to listen to, and able to empathise with, those of us who’ve experienced transphobia and homophobia, or gender-based bullying, if you will.
It’s yet another sign of progress in a decade that’s come to be defined by trans people having their voices heard here, there and everywhere — including, now, Kensington Palace.
