AS THE NATIONAL YOUTH THEATRE CELEBRATES ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR, ATTITUDE MEETS SOME YOUNG, OUT AND PROUD LGBT+ STARS

QUEER THEATRE SPECIAL

SIXTY YEARS AGO, the National Youth Theatre was founded. It was the first youth theatre in the world and reached out across the UK to discover diverse new talent, aiming to inspire, train and showcase exceptional young performers and theatre technicians. In its first year, 1956, the musical My Fair Lady opened on Broadway, John Osborne’s famous play Look Back in Anger premiered at the Royal Court and the arts were thriving among a public who, just a decade before, had seen their world torn apart by war. The NYT continued nurturing new talent, and, over the years, has produced such luminaries as Helen Mirren and Daniel Craig, via Catherine Tate and Orlando Bloom.
