ALAN DAVIE AND DAVID HOCKNEY: EARLY WORKS
One of the great gay artists of modern times, David Hockney’s paintings will be familiar to many. Perhaps less wellknown to queer audiences is Alan Davie (1920-2014), but a young Hockney was hugely influenced by his work when he visited the Scottish artist’s first retrospective exhibition in 1958. Now, The Hepworth Wakefield, in West Yorkshire, presents a new showcase from 19 October that brings together early works, with common themes, from both men.
