This year marks the bicentenary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Why are you such a keen supporter of the charity?
Some of my earliest memories are sitting in my father’s boat in Bosham, West Sussex. You become conscious, I think, if you sail at all, that the sea is a capricious thing. I’ve not been out in a lot of major storms, but I’ve been out in force eight, force nine. It is bizarre how strong and powerful the effect of the sea and wind can be for anybody, especially in a small boat.
