When he slugged his 53rd home run of the season on September 29, the final game of the 2019 season, Pete Alonso set a major league record for most home runs hit by a rookie. The previous mark was set in 2017 when the Yankees’ Aaron Judge slugged 52 homers. Alonso’s 53 round-trippers led the majors.
