MEET JAY: “I’m 40 years and live in Calgary, Alberta where I work in the automotive industry. I’m a die-hard Flames fan and sports enthusiast. I’ve been married for 13 years to a wonderful woman who supports my collecting (most of the time!)”
GETTING STARTED: “I started collecting hockey cards when I was six years old, back when O-Pee-Chee packs were 25 cents and came with a piece of gum. I would memorize the information for every player that was on the back of the card. My mother recalls me knowing the birth places of every player that had a hockey card!
“I had several friends that also collected. We would roam around collecting bottles to get money for [packs]. Even then, it was evident that the cards were worth more to me than to the others, as I never took part in the childhood games that ofien ruined the cards.
