A BUYER’S GUIDE
It seems every show or launch bike we see these days is equipped with disc brakes. It’s hardly surprising, given the obvious benefits in our Gulf Stream-affected climate, how well discs have been received. Moving the braking surface away from the road and all the water and crud that goes with it, is a logical choice, added to which there is also a certain logic to providing a dedicated braking surface, rather than wearing through the rim of your wheel. So whether we like it or not, brake discs on road bikes seem to be here to stay.
It’s still a relatively new technology for road bikes, only being launched in 2013, and the development curve is still fairly rapid with big improvements coming to the function and form with every iteration.
