Last week my husband managed to wipe my hard drive. The fact that we are still living together is largely down to Ben our miraculous IT guy who retrieved everything (although I had backed up all my photographs!). All seemed fine until I went to print out an image a couple of nights ago and discovered that all my calibration, profiles and settings had gone completely haywire. Now, anybody who knows me (I have bored most people on the subject) or who has read my article in the November 2009 issue, knows how long it took me to get a really decent print – and they will be impressed by my restraint. Instead of going into a frenzy, I have decided that this will be The Year of the Print – that is, I will explore every possible way of printing (in the meantime, I’ve discovered that Boots don’t do a bad job!). So if you think you have the best possible solution to producing a really great print whether it’s from your own photo printer, a high street photo lab or up-market print studio – or by heading back to the darkroom, I want to hear about it. And now there’s just the problem of dealing with my husband…

Very good magazine in need of some fresh perspectives

For the most part, I find B/W Photography Magazine essential reading: well-written; informative and with a good balance between different styles and methods. I especially like features about photographers and their work, the news and the book section.

I have one reservation. Apart from Lee Frost, I no longer read any of the staff writer/photographers. I feel that it is time for some fresh ideas and new perspectives.
