Black+White Photography  |  January 2010
Life can be quite extraordinary at times. Last week we put our house on the market, someone came to view it, and then the agent phoned to say they were interested and would like a second visit to ascertain whether or not they could – and this is the bit that you’re just not going to believe – make a darkroom in the cellar! Well, obviously at this point I became far more interested in meeting them from a photographic point of view than from the point of view of being potential buyers. A darkroom – how exciting was that? I’d always intended doing the same with the cellar and knew that it would be ideal. We’d worked out water and ventilation and height was OK if you weren’t over 6ft. On the following Saturday we met and after quickly agreeing to sell the house to them, got on to the more interesting topic of photography – and this is the bit that you really aren’t going to believe – they are readers of Black & White Photography! Serendipity? So, not every darkroom is being turned into a utility room, and some potential utility rooms are being turned into darkrooms. There is hope for the world.
